Powdered sugar (for icing)
Description
Powdered sugar (for icing) is finely ground white sugar with a silky, powdery texture and an intensely sweet, neutral flavor, often enriched with a small amount of starch as an anti-caking agent. It gives baked goods a smooth finish and a delicate shine, dissolving easily in liquids to create smooth glazes. Nutritionally, it is practically pure carbohydrates of simple sugars, providing quickly absorbable energy (about 400 kcal per 100 g) without protein, fat, or significant vitamins and minerals; when consumed in moderation, it can add energy, but excess contributes to weight gain and cavities, so use it sparingly. It is most commonly used for icings, glazes, cake and cookie decorations, for marshmallows or drinks, as well as for dusting before baking. Store in an airtight container in a dry, cool place away from moisture and strong odors; if it clumps, sift through a sieve.
