Feta

🌱 Vegetarian

Description

Feta is a white, crumbly cheese with a creamy texture and a distinctly salty, slightly tangy flavor, often with hints of sheep or goat milk, usually served in pieces or crumbled. Its surface can be smooth or slightly grainy, and it is traditionally stored in brine, which enhances its aroma and prolongs its shelf life. Nutritionally, feta provides high-quality protein, calcium, and B vitamins, promoting bone health and muscle recovery; it also contains saturated fats and relatively high salt levels, so it is best consumed in moderation. It pairs perfectly with salads (e.g., Greek), roasted vegetables, casseroles, tarts, pastas, and sandwiches, as well as being an excellent addition to Mediterranean dishes. Store feta in the refrigerator, preferably in its original brine or in lightly salted water in an airtight container; consume within 7–10 days after opening. Pieces can be stored in olive oil for a different flavor, but freezing alters the texture and is not recommended for its delicate consistency.
