Espresso (strong coffee)

🌱 Vegetarian 🌿 Vegan

Description

Espresso is an intensely aromatic, strong coffee with a dark brown, almost black color and a thick, golden crema on the surface. The flavor is dominated by concentrated bitterness with notes of acidity and sweetness depending on the beans and roasting; it has a full body and a long, pronounced finish that enhances the taste of dishes and beverages. Nutritionally, black espresso has very few calories, provides caffeine and antioxidants (chlorogenic acids), which in moderate amounts can improve alertness, metabolism, and cognitive functions, and is associated with a lower risk of certain diseases. Espresso is used as a base for milk drinks (latte, cappuccino), in desserts (tiramisu, ice cream), in sauces and marinades, and in cocktails. Beans should be stored in an airtight, opaque container in a cool, dry place, and ground coffee is best used immediately; brewed coffee should be consumed right away for the best quality.
