Pecan nuts
Description
Pecans are oval, wrinkled nuts with a thin, brown shell and a creamy-brown interior. They have a buttery, sweet flavor with delicate notes of caramel and a slightly crunchy yet silky smooth texture, making them particularly aromatic and enjoyable to eat raw or roasted. In the kitchen, they work well in both sweet baked goods, such as classic pecan pie or cookies, as well as in salads, granola, as an addition to meat dishes, breading, or creamy peanut butter. Nutritionally, pecans are rich in monounsaturated fats, fiber, protein, vitamin E, and minerals such as manganese and magnesium, as well as strong antioxidants, which promote heart health and reduce inflammation. To maintain freshness and aroma, store them in an airtight container in a cool, dark place, preferably in the refrigerator or freezer, which will extend their shelf life, especially after they have been shelled.
