Parma ham

Description

Prosciutto di Parma is a delicate, long-aged Italian ham with a protected designation of origin (DOP), characterized by a sweet-salty, slightly nutty flavor and thin, translucent slices in shades of pink with distinctive streaks of white fat. It is rich in protein and provides B vitamins and minerals such as iron and zinc; it also contains beneficial monounsaturated fatty acids, but due to its salt content and the nature of processed meat, it should be consumed in moderation. In the kitchen, it pairs well with antipasti, melons, figs, cheeses, arugula salads, sandwiches, pasta, and as an elegant addition to pizza or asparagus wrapped in prosciutto. Store in the refrigerator at a temperature of 2–6°C, preferably wrapped in parchment paper and foil or in an airtight container; slices should be consumed within a few days, while a whole leg can be stored longer in a cool, dry place.
