Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
Description
Coarse sea salt for sprinkling is characterized by larger, irregular crystals with a pearly white or slightly gray hue and a pleasant, clean, slightly salty taste with delicate mineral notes. Due to the brittleness of the crystals, it adds a pleasant texture and distinct "drops" of flavor with every bite. It is primarily sodium chloride, providing sodium essential for electrolyte balance, as well as trace amounts of magnesium, potassium, or calcium, which give it a subtle "marine" aftertaste; due to its high sodium content, it should be used sparingly, and uniodized sea salt cannot replace sources of iodine in the diet. It is typically used as a finishing salt on steaks, roasted vegetables, salads, baked goods, or chocolate desserts, where it enhances flavors and adds crunch. It should be stored in a sealed, dry container in a cool place away from moisture to avoid clumping; it does not require refrigeration, and if necessary, a moisture-absorbing sachet can be added.
