Oyster mushrooms

🌱 Vegetarian 🌿 Vegan

Description

Oyster mushrooms have a delicate, slightly nutty flavor and a meaty, layered structure of fan-shaped caps, usually in shades of white, gray, or beige, making them both a decorative and aromatic addition to dishes. In the kitchen, they work excellently when sautéed, stewed, in stir-fries, as a base for soups and sauces, as well as breaded or baked as a plant-based meat alternative due to their firm texture. Oyster mushrooms are low in calories, a source of plant protein, fiber, B vitamins, and minerals such as potassium, iron, and selenium; they also contain polysaccharides (beta-glucans) and antioxidants that support immunity and heart health. Store them in the refrigerator in a paper bag or a breathable container, without washing them before storage; it's best to use them within a few days, but they can also be briefly blanched and frozen for longer storage.
