Cod fillets

Description

Cod fillets are delicate, white meat with a mild, slightly sweet flavor and a firm, flaky texture. They appear as light, creamy pieces with a smooth surface, easy to season and combine with other ingredients. Nutritionally, cod is a source of lean, high-quality protein, vitamin B12, selenium, phosphorus, and small amounts of vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids, which support heart, brain, and muscle functions, help with weight management, and provide valuable micronutrients at low calorie content. Culinary uses for cod fillets are very versatile: baking, frying, stewing, steaming, or using in soups, fish cakes, and fish and chips dishes; they pair well with citrus, butter, herbs, garlic, and breadcrumbs. Fresh fillets are best stored chilled on ice or at a temperature of 0–4°C and used within 1–2 days. For longer storage, freeze them airtight (preferably vacuum-sealed) and use within 3–6 months, thaw slowly in the refrigerator, and avoid refreezing.
