Ground cloves
Description
Ground cloves are a fine, brownish powder with an intense, warm, and slightly peppery aroma, featuring a distinct spicy and sweet note. The flavor is dominated by resinous-eugenol tones, which add depth and a spicy finish to dishes, and even small amounts quickly enhance the character of a dish. The nutritional values of cloves primarily include phytochemical compounds, especially eugenol, as well as antioxidants and trace amounts of minerals like manganese. They have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial properties and aid digestion, and when used in moderation, they can alleviate stomach discomfort. Ground cloves pair well with meats, marinades, baked desserts, sauces, spiced beverages, and dishes from Indian or Mediterranean cuisine. Store them in a tightly sealed container in a cool, dark, and dry place, and it's best to use them within 6–12 months; whole buds retain their aroma much longer.
