Sushi rice

Description

Sushi rice is a short-grain Japonica rice with pearl-white, slightly translucent grains that becomes sticky and glossy when cooked, with a mildly sweet, neutral flavor that pairs well with rice vinegar. As a primary source of carbohydrates, it provides quick energy, contains small amounts of protein and fat, is naturally gluten-free, and is easily digestible; white sushi rice has less fiber than the brown version, but when combined with fish and vegetables, it creates a balanced meal rich in B vitamins and minerals. Typically used for sushi, onigiri, chirashi, and as a base for bowls or salads, as well as a side dish for fish and seafood, it absorbs spices and sauces wonderfully. Storage: keep dry rice in an airtight container in a cool, dry place; quickly cool cooked rice, store in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours, or freeze portions, reheating thoroughly before consumption.
