Ground cinnamon
Description
Ground cinnamon is a fine, brownish-red powder with an intense, sweet-spicy aroma featuring warm, slightly woody notes. It adds depth and sweetness to dishes without sugar, while visually providing a warm, appetizing hue. Nutritionally, cinnamon is a source of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, containing small amounts of manganese, iron, and fiber. Research suggests it may support glucose control and lipid metabolism with moderate consumption; however, it is important to remember the presence of coumarin in cassia cinnamon and consume it in moderation. In the kitchen, ground cinnamon is suitable for baking, oatmeal, coffee and tea, desserts, and savory dishes like curries or meat marinades, and it blends perfectly into spice mixes. It should be stored in a tightly sealed container in a cool, dark, and dry place, away from heat and moisture sources; for longer freshness, it is advisable to use cinnamon sticks and grind them as needed.
