Orzo pasta

🌱 Vegetarian 🌿 Vegan

Description

Orzo pasta is a small, rice-like noodle made from semolina or durum wheat flour, with a delicate, slightly wheat flavor and a silky texture when cooked. It has a subtle taste, making it easy to absorb flavors from herbs, vegetables, and sauces, and with short cooking, it retains a pleasant al dente firmness. Nutritionally, orzo mainly provides carbohydrates and a moderate amount of protein, low fat content, as well as B vitamins and iron in enriched versions. Whole grain variants offer more fiber, which promotes satiety and digestive health. In the kitchen, it works well in soups, salads, pilafs, casseroles, and as a substitute for rice, pairing nicely with vegetables, meat, fish, and creamy sauces. Store dry pasta in an airtight, cool, and dry place, and cooked orzo in the refrigerator for 3–4 days or freeze in portioned containers for 1–2 months.
