Chopped walnuts
Description
Chopped walnuts have a slightly buttery, mildly bitter taste with a characteristic earthy note and creamy texture; the chopped form reveals their golden-brown flesh and accelerates the release of aroma, making them more pronounced in dishes. They are rich in unsaturated fatty acids (especially ALA — omega-3), protein, fiber, B vitamins, vitamin E, magnesium, copper, and polyphenols, which support heart health, have anti-inflammatory effects, positively influence cholesterol levels and cognitive functions, and increase the feeling of fullness. In the kitchen, chopped walnuts are perfect for salads, bread, cookies, muesli, farmhouse cheeses, pesto sauces, and dishes with pumpkin or beets, as well as a crunchy addition to yogurt or meat. They should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dark place; due to the larger surface area exposed to oxidation, chopped walnuts lose freshness more quickly, so it's best to keep them in the refrigerator or freezer, where they will retain their qualities for several months.
