Chili flakes (pul biber)

🌱 Vegetarian 🌿 Vegan

Description

Chili flakes (pul biber) are small, irregular flakes with a deep red color, often with visible seeds and skin from the pepper. They have a fruity-herbaceous aroma with a moderate, pleasantly mild spiciness and a slightly sweet note, less aggressive than powdered peppers. They are visually appealing and add texture and color to dishes. Nutritionally, chili flakes are low in calories and rich in bioactive compounds such as capsaicin, flavonoids, provitamin A, and vitamin C, which support metabolism, have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and may positively affect circulation. In the kitchen, pul biber pairs well with grilled meats, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes, soups, salads, eggs, cheeses, or yogurt dips, enhancing flavor without overwhelming. Store in an airtight, opaque container in a cool, dry, and dark place, away from moisture and heat sources; best used within 6–12 months to maintain aroma.
