Fresh tomatoes
Description
Fresh tomatoes are characterized by their juicy flesh, balanced sweet and sour notes, and intense aroma; they come in various shapes and colors—from classic red to yellows and striped varieties—making them an attractive element in dishes and plate decoration. They are low in calories, rich in vitamin C, provitamin A (beta-carotene), potassium, and fiber, and the lycopene they contain acts as a strong antioxidant, supporting the circulatory system and skin health, as well as exhibiting anti-inflammatory properties. In the kitchen, tomatoes are suitable for salads, salsas, sauces, soups, roasts, grilled dishes, sandwiches, and pizza; they are also great for preserving, drying, or making passata. To maintain their flavor and texture, store them preferably at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, to allow for even ripening; fully ripe tomatoes can be briefly chilled, but before serving, it's worth warming them to room temperature, and long-term storage should be done through preserves or drying.
