Simple syrup (1:1)
Description
Simple syrup (1:1) is a clear, slightly sticky liquid with a neutral, distinctly sweet taste that does not interfere with the aroma of other ingredients. Its consistency makes it easy to sweeten both cold and hot beverages evenly, and its clear appearance ensures it does not alter the color of dishes. Nutritionally, it is practically a pure source of simple sugars, providing energy in the form of calories, and contains no protein, fat, or significant vitamins or minerals, so it should be used in moderation. In the kitchen, it has a wide range of applications: it sweetens cocktails and coffees, stabilizes the flavor of lemonades, serves for glazes, fruit sauces, desserts, and marinades, and also improves the texture of sorbets and creams. Store in a sealed, clean container in the refrigerator for about 2–4 weeks; for longer shelf life, it can be pasteurized or a small amount of alcohol can be added and the preparation date marked.
