Fresh tomato
Description
Fresh tomato is a fruit with juicy flesh and a bright, usually red color, although there are also yellow and purple varieties; its taste combines sweetness with pleasant acidity, the skin can be smooth or slightly wrinkled, and the aroma is intense and fresh. It is low in calories, mainly composed of water, and provides vitamins C, A, and K, potassium, and lycopene—a powerful antioxidant that supports heart health, reduces inflammation, and protects cells from oxidative stress. In the kitchen, tomato is versatile: raw in salads and sandwiches, as a base for sauces, soups, and salsas, baked or dried for pasta dishes, meat, or cheese, it pairs well with basil, garlic, and olive oil. Store tomatoes at room temperature away from light to ripen evenly; fully ripe ones should be stored in the refrigerator for a short time, preferably in a container, and cut ones should be kept covered and used within a few days.
