Chives (optional)
Description
Chives (optional) are a delicate green herb with a fresh, slightly onion-like aroma and thin, hollow stems that add a pleasant crunch and decorative touch to dishes. They have a subtle, non-dominating flavor, making them perfect for balancing dishes without overwhelming other ingredients. They are low in calories and provide vitamins A, C, and K, certain amounts of folic acid, as well as minerals and flavonoids with antioxidant properties, supporting immunity, eye health, and bone health. In the kitchen, they are used as a fresh addition to salads, scrambled eggs, soups, dips, cottage cheese, fish, and potatoes, as well as for decoration. Store chives in the refrigerator wrapped in a damp paper towel in an airtight container or standing in a glass of water covered with a bag, using them within a week; finely chopped chives can also be frozen in oil.
