Description

Whole cloves are an intense, warm, and slightly sweet-spicy seasoning with a strong, aromatic scent; they resemble small, brown buds with a hard head and a short stem. They contain active compounds, primarily eugenol, as well as antioxidants and minerals such as manganese, which support digestion, exhibit anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, and are also used in traditional medicine for dental issues and stomach pains. In the kitchen, whole cloves are suitable for meat dishes, stews, pickles, fish, compotes, mulled wine, spiced baked goods, and curry, adding depth and warmth to the aroma. They are best stored in an airtight container in a cool, dark, and dry place; whole cloves retain their aroma much longer than ground ones, usually for several years, as long as they are not exposed to moisture and light.
