Spirulina (powder)
Description
Spirulina powder is an intensely green-blue, finely ground powder with an earthy-sea, slightly umami flavor that adds a vivid color and a hint of "green" bitterness even in small amounts. As a microalga, it provides concentrated protein with a complete set of amino acids, iron, magnesium, B vitamins, and strong antioxidants, primarily phycocyanin; regular, moderate consumption may support mineral replenishment and overall antioxidant intake, although the source and quality determine safety. In the kitchen, it is used sparingly in smoothies, juices, yogurts, dips, dressings, energy balls, and light soups, where it pairs well with citrus, banana, plant-based milk, or coconut. It should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry, and dark place, away from moisture and high temperatures; for safety, choose certified sources, and if in doubt, consult a doctor about its use.
